Dubai looks entirely modern from the outside, but it hides several layers you can uncover in three well-planned days: one for modernity, one for history, and one for coastal relaxation.
Day one: Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall Start with the city's icon. The "At the Top" platform on floors 124 and 125 has two price tiers: non-prime tickets (9am to 3:30pm, and 8pm to midnight) cost AED 173 for adults and AED 140 for children, while prime hours (4pm to 7pm) push the price to AED 250 for adults and AED 158 for children. For an even higher experience, the "At the Top SKY" upgrade to floor 148 ranges from AED 400 to 554. After coming down, spend the rest of the day at the adjacent Dubai Mall, one of the largest malls in the world by land area, with over 1,200 stores and 120 restaurants, plus the Dubai Aquarium with more than 300 marine species, an Olympic-sized ice rink, and the famous Dubai Fountain outside, with 6,600 synchronized lights and water jets. The mall connects to the metro station via an 820-meter air-conditioned bridge.
Day two: Old Dubai Spend your day away from the skyscrapers, in the historic Al Fahidi district, marked by the traditional wind-tower architecture that defines it. Cross Dubai Creek aboard a traditional abra for just AED 1 — an experience worth doing on its own. On the other side, you'll find the Gold Souk in Deira, roughly 300 shops glittering with 21K and 22K jewelry, and nearby the Spice Souk, where the air fills with the scent of saffron, frankincense, dried lemons, and rose petals.
Day three: the beaches Close your trip with a day by the sea. JBR Beach is completely free, surrounded by "The Walk" promenade with its cafés and shops. Kite Beach also has free entry, known for its food trucks, dedicated running track, and views of the Burj Al Arab. La Mer is likewise free to enter, with a modern vibe, street art, and a relaxed dining strip, charging only for rides and rented loungers.
Tips for organizing the three days Book your Burj Khalifa ticket online well ahead of your trip to avoid prime-hour slots selling out. To get between Old Dubai and downtown, a Nol card unlocks the metro and bus network easily. And bring sun protection for beach day — the best times are usually early morning or late afternoon to avoid peak heat.
