Ritan Park is located at No. 6 Ritan North Road in Chaoyang District, Beijing, at the heart of the embassy quarter that hosts many foreign diplomatic missions. The park was built around the Altar of the Sun (Ritan), constructed in 1530 during the reign of Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty, where emperors once performed an annual spring ritual sacrifice to the sun. Today, the grounds surrounding the altar have been transformed into a public park landscaped in traditional Chinese garden style, with winding paths, tall trees, and ornate red gates such as the West Holy Gate, which still stands today. The park offers a peaceful retreat for local residents and embassy staff. Visitors can stroll among the old trees, view the remains of the historic imperial altar, and enjoy a calm atmosphere away from the city's crowds, along with small cafes and restaurants scattered throughout the grounds.
